Who we are
Goldfinch Adventures is an East Africa travel-planning company. We help travellers plan safaris, Kilimanjaro climbs, gorilla trekking and beach holidays through honest, local expertise. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Goldfinch Adventures.
This policy applies to our website and our AI Travel Advisor. It does not cover third-party websites we may link to.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact details — your name, email address, phone or WhatsApp number, and country of residence.
- Trip preferences — destinations, travel dates, group size, budget range, interests and any notes you share when you submit a planning request or enquiry.
- Messages — anything you write to us through forms, the AI Travel Advisor, or when you contact our team.
Information collected automatically
- Basic technical data such as your browser and device type, and a temporary session identifier used to keep your chat working and to prevent abuse.
- A hashed version of your IP address. We use it only as a weak signal to limit spam and abuse — we do not store your raw IP address.
How we use your information
- To answer your questions and respond to enquiries.
- To plan and tailor trip suggestions to your dates, budget and travel style.
- To create a booking request that one of our specialists reviews and follows up with you.
- To improve our service, content and the quality of the AI Travel Advisor.
- To keep the site secure and prevent misuse.
- To meet our legal and accounting obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
The AI Travel Advisor
Our AI Travel Advisor is powered by trusted AI providers (including Anthropic's Claude). When you chat, your messages are processed to generate helpful, grounded responses about travel in East Africa. A short consent notice is shown before the advisor asks for any contact details.
The AI advisor offers guidance and suggestions only. It never takes payment and never confirms a booking — a human specialist always reviews and confirms your trip. We keep a record of conversations to assist you and to improve the service; see Data Retention for how long we keep them.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers that help us run Goldfinch Adventures, and only the minimum needed:
- Hosting and database — to securely store your enquiry and our content.
- AI providers — to power the Travel Advisor and search.
- Bot protection — to tell real visitors from automated abuse.
- Customer relationship tools — to manage your enquiry and follow up with you (where enabled).
- Messaging — if you choose to continue a conversation with us on WhatsApp.
We may also disclose information where required by law.
Cookies
We use a small number of functional cookies and similar storage — for example, to remember your chat session and your shortlist. We do not use intrusive advertising trackers. Where a cookie notice is shown, you can manage your choices there.
How long we keep your data
Anonymous AI advisor conversations are deleted automatically after a set period. Enquiries and conversations linked to a booking request are kept while we assist you and to meet our records obligations. Full details are on our Data Retention page.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal information at any time. If you are in the EU or UK, you also have rights under the GDPR, including the right to object to or restrict certain processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise any of these, just contact us.
International transfers
Some of our providers process data outside your country, including outside East Africa. Where this happens we take care to use reputable providers with appropriate safeguards.
Children
Our website and AI advisor are intended for adults planning travel. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18 without a parent or guardian.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
