Northern Serengeti

Northern Serengeti is one of the most powerful seasonal safari areas in Tanzania — a remote region where the migration reaches the Mara River, predator activity remains strong and the landscape feels quieter than the central plains.

Northern Serengeti is where the migration story becomes tense, spacious and unpredictable. Herds gather near the Mara River, predators move through the valleys, and the landscape opens into a remote safari region that rewards patience.

Northern Serengeti is strongly seasonal. It is most famous from July to October, when the migration is often in the north and Mara River crossing chances are at their strongest.

Northern Serengeti works best as a focused seasonal safari area, usually reached by fly-in routing or as part of a longer Serengeti itinerary with enough time to avoid rushing.

Many travellers visit Northern Serengeti specifically for the possibility of Mara River crossings. Because crossings cannot be scheduled, the route needs patience and at least three nights in the area for a stronger chance of being in the right place at the right time.

Northern Serengeti can be combined with Central Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Tarangire for a complete Northern Circuit safari. It can also connect smoothly with Zanzibar by flight after the safari, especially for travellers who want a beach finish after a more intense migration route.
